Day 17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

For no apparent reason, much much easier than summaries. Perhaps because generally commentfics name themselves and for everything else there's either an obvious line or a music/poetry reference to be made. Chapter titles are rare, and only ever for some stylistic reason, or guidance or effect in the story.

Day 7 – Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?

Something that I've written? Not that I can think of. Stuff that other people have written, undoubtedly.

Fandom is brilliant for bringing out sides to characters that probably never existed in the first place, and making that fit with the continuing canon. The example that jumps to mind is the twins - Elladan and Elrohir - in LotR. They have a dozen mentions between them and I'd be hard put to say if they have more than four lines of dialogue, and yet fanon has them as very distinct characters where Elrohir is playful and light hearted but prone to misfortune and Elladan is more serious and enjoys playing pranks on the household.

The other example is probably Gai (Naruto) who was an annoying distraction in the books, only good for an occasional laugh and for rescuing everyone when things got really bad. In fandom his friendship with Kakashi has turned into this pseudo-legendary and entirely psychological attack on Kakashi's defences. Giving him a way to have a friend without the fear of loss that has haunted him since Team Minato fell apart.

And I'm sure that's not what the question was asking at all, and I've ended up blah-ing in two fandoms that aren't even linked to this pseudo. I fail. Sorry.
