Day 15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
I'm a bit of a paranoid warner because I've started some fics I've gone running from because of poor warnings. Even if it's stuff I would generally be fine with, if I'm not expecting it, it can really spoil an experience. It's interesting that homosexuality and polyamoury has become something ficcers are very blase about as a group of writers, but I generally take that as warned in the pairing. If a fic is R or NC-17 rated I will specify why (sex/violence/domination/torture). Incest is one I'm careful to warn about because there are very mixed feelings about it. I also generally warn for fluff, because some people are looking for very specific things in their fic and sometimes fluff/domestic isn't it.
Strangest thing? I went though a phase where I thought 'elf-harm' (yes I have spelt that right) was the most hysterical warning in the world. But possibly an HIV warning. I didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable going into the fic, and serious illness always holds that risk.
Incidentally, I think that's why Playing By Heart never did as well as it should have done. I mean, hell it was a freaking ridiculous cast and amazing writing. If anyone hasn't seen it - go look it up. *pushes* Go on. Now. :p
