Day 14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I don't write sex very well at all in terms of my own comfort levels, and while I have written up to NC-17 it is generally for control and violence mixed with sexual situations. I rarely write lower than PG because I write slash and while I wish it wasn't the case there are places where homosexuality is still a dangerous concept to bandy around. It worries me that people are writing scenes of homosexual intimacy at PG - it's just not a valid rating. I have written g-rated works for shows already intended for children and enjoyed writing them. And I've been comfortable with my youngest cousins reading them if they felt like it.
