FIC: Who Am I?

"Back when she was alive, we meant something to the world." His voice was soft, but this was the first time he'd spoken to her so she listened intently.

He was one of those she'd always been told shouldn't be disturbed; but he was talking to her so she figured she wasn't disturbing him. She knelt at the side of his armchair and put a gentle hand on his arm. "Did you want to tell me about it, sir?" she asked.

He wasn't old, or as noticeably crazy as the others. He didn't shake or scream or make a mess. In her mind, he was one of her favourites, even though they hadn't shared a sentence together.

"We were all cast in her shadow, we all grew up there like stunted plants. Every time we stood up we were resting on her shoulders. Every time we fell down she'd catch us. She was sword and shield and what did we ever..." His breathing was turning rapid and uncertain. "She was who she was, we couldn't help but become... some part of her. Nothing for ourselves."

"Who was she?" It seemed like such an innocent question, but his face paled and his hands clenched around the arm rests. He didn't answer, slowly shaking his head.

"You're asking the wrong question," he retorted, grabbing her hand. Her heart was suddenly in her mouth, trying to pull her hand back but not managing to even loosen his grip. His gaze never lifted from the ground. She looked at him a little closer, this scared man.

"Who are you?" she asked, curiosity winning out over fear.

"I'm a side kick without a superhero. A soldier without a general." He stopped, sighed deeply, hands relaxing. "I'm no-one who matters any more."

My weapon was: You watch as Fred starts working with the materials you brought her. In a matter of seconds, she fashions them into a weapon. You receive an Evil Hand Glove. This frightening weapon might have some issues to work through.

I loved the concept of Lindsey's run down old fight club. And on that day there was a meme:

My last post was an ER and Leverage crossover. My zombie apocalypse teammates will be the leverage team plus Kovac, Carter and Abby. I think having the medical doctors on site will probably help with survival, and possibly even with developing a cure - that said, it's entirely possible that Carter and Nate would have a clash of wills at some point and that might disrupt the group.
I think the Leverage guys have a fairly solid skill set for surviving end-of-the-world scenarios, so with the addition of a large building (the hospital) to hide out in, I think we'd be pretty safe.

Look to your right. You find a crate full of whatever the first object you see is. The other Survivors will definitely be fighting over who gets these. What's the crate full of? Traffic cones (hehe - welcome to hostel living)

The last thing you had to eat is what you bring back for the other Survivors. What's on the menu? Pasta with white sauce, carrots, peas, and frankfurters

Look in the the closest reflective surface (like a mirror). The first object you see is what Crazy Dave makes his next hat out of. What is it? A lampshade

Turn on your television or put your music player on shuffle. The first thing you hear is what's happening on the streets. What's going on? OMG - people are singing ABBA!? (I hate hostel common area TVs)

Look on your journal's profile. The number of Tags you have is the number of zombies you take out on your way back to the other Survivors. How many? You want me to *count* my tags?!? Oh, it tells me on there... *face-palm* 335! :D The Evil Hand wins again!

Take the book that's closest to you. Turn to the first chapter. The 1st sentence on that page describes what's happening when you get back to the other Survivors. What does it say? Cela arriva sous terre, la nuit, dans le silence, dans cette immense salle insonorisée où ça clignotait et cliquetait doucement. -- So basically they're underground and it's very quiet, but there are odd noises.
